My Baby's Name

from cartoonified musician by Sylvain Poitras

/

about

I thought about this song for about a month, then I recorded it in a day in June of 2007. The Tom Waits influence is obvious...

This was the first of a series of songs for my imaginary trio : simple compositions that could easily be played by a trio in a crowded bar.

lyrics

My baby went south for spring break
she come back with a different name
she says she loves me all the same
but that diamond on her finger sure ain't fake

who goes around putting rings on fingers
who goes around changing little girls' names
who goes around putting rings on fingers
who goes around changing my baby's name

god must love unfaithful women
might as well count grains of sand
and all the others weight doen their hands
with the shiny curse of men

who goes around putting rings on fingers
who goes around changing little girls' names
who goes around putting rings on fingers
who goes around changing my baby's name

my baby sure loves her jewelery
her heart beats only for silver and gold
but my pockets are empty and my house foreclosed
spent my last dollar on her trip to bali

who goes around putting rings on fingers
who goes around changing little girls' names
who goes around putting rings on fingers
who goes around changing my baby's name

Software designer and trombonist, he invented the "meta-trombone", a sophisticated processing system which leads him to the origins of free jazz. ... more
